Honduras is a relatively short flight from many US and Canadian cities. Don't waste time in flights and start birding faster. Honduras is the most mountainous country in Central America and connects the northern and southern hemispheres, making it an ideal destination for birdwatching migratory species, especially between October and April.
Honduras is a little-known, off-the-beaten path natural paradise, where you can still enjoy birding in vast natural spaces without the crowds. The open spaces are ideal for nature and wildlife photography at your own pace. For up to date information on bird species take a look at the country profile in eBIRD HERE
With almost 800 bird species identified so far in a relatively small country, Honduras is a birder’s paradise. Honduras overall enjoys a tropical climate, but also has very diverse micro-climates including rain forests, pine & oak forests, cloud forests, coastal dune, pine savanna, mangroves, and tropical dry forests, which are home to the endemic Honduran Emerald hummingbird. This creates ideal birding opportunities visiting multiple habitats for a varied bird list.
Pico Bonito National Park, Cuero y Salado Wildlife Refuge, the Lake Yojoa basin and the Copan Valley are four of our featured destinations for birding and wildlife photography trips. A trip combining these destinations will provide a good mix of ecosystems and target birds. These are our most popular trips, 7-day and 10-day itineraries, and they can be customized to your interests. We can also create a custom itinerary based on your specific preferences, and additional destinations including La Tigra National Park, La Muralla National Park, the Pacific coastline, and Montecillos Wildlife Refuge.
