Lake Yojoa
Lake Yojoa lies at the heart of a remarkable landscape where freshwater, mountains, forests and rural communities come together. Surrounded by Cerro Azul Meámbar National Park and Santa Bárbara National Park, the lake and its surrounding habitats offer exceptional opportunities for birding and wildlife observation. The region also includes Pulhapanzak Falls, where the Río Lindo plunges dramatically through the landscape, and the forested mountains that form an important water source for the Lake Yojoa basin.
The region combines natural heritage with a remarkable human history. Los Naranjos Eco-Archaeological Park protects the remains of an ancient settlement dating back to around 800 BC, predating Copán by nearly a millennium. Its trails, partially excavated structures and archaeological museum offer a glimpse into one of Honduras' oldest known cultural landscapes. Nearby, Luna del Puente, a private bird sanctuary, and BioParque Paradise, a natural reserve surrounded by forest, coffee and tropical flowers, offer more intimate ways to experience the area's biodiversity and connect with local initiatives.

Siguatepeque
Siguatepeque is a highland city in central Honduras, surrounded by pine and oak forests and fragments of cloud forest. Its elevation and mountain landscapes create habitat for a variety of highland birds, while its location between Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula makes it a convenient stop for travelers exploring central Honduras.
The surrounding countryside offers opportunities to experience nature at a slower pace. Santa Bárbara
Santa Bárbara is a historic highland town and the capital of Santa Bárbara Department, surrounded by the landscapes of Santa Bárbara National Park (PANAMOSAB). The park protects Montaña de Santa Bárbara, Honduras' second-highest peak, and its cloud forests provide important habitat for highland birds and other wildlife. The mountain can be experienced from different sides, each offering a distinct connection with the surrounding communities and landscapes.
On the Lake Yojoa side, the main access to the park is through El Cedral, where PANAMOSAB Cabañas provides a base for exploring the mountain, birding and hiking. The cabins are associated with local environmental defender Leonel Chávez, whose family and community have dedicated years to protecting and sharing this landscape with visitors. On the Santa Bárbara side of the mountain, communities such as El Aguacatal and La Cuesta offer opportunities to discover rural traditions and meet local producers.
