Tela
Tela is where Honduras' Caribbean coast invites you to look beyond the beach. The destination brings together wildlife, Caribbean landscapes and living culture. For birders and nature travelers, Tela provides access to important coastal ecosystems, including Jeannette Kawas National Park (Punta Sal) and Punta Izopo National Park. Lancetilla Botanical Garden and Research Center adds another dimension, with collections of economically important tropical plants, particularly fruit trees. La Ceiba
La Ceiba developed as an important Caribbean port during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, becoming closely associated with Honduras' banana industry. Its growth shaped the city's multicultural identity and left a distinctive historical legacy that can still be explored today.
Beyond the city, La Ceiba is surrounded by an extraordinary network of protected landscapes. Pico Bonito National Park rises dramatically from the Caribbean coast, while the Cangrejal River flows through its forests toward the sea. Nearby Cuero y Salado Wildlife Refuge protects wetlands inhabited by West Indian manatees, crocodilians and an impressive variety of birds. Nombre de Dios National Park, including Laguna de Cacao, adds coastal forests and wetlands, while La Ceiba also serves as a gateway to the marine landscapes of Cayos Cochinos.
